13th September 2014, Saturday
It was a cloudy Saturday morning and 22 KL Bird Park Rangers were once again gathered excitedly for the day to start. Once introduction was made, the rangers eagerly trooped into the park to learn about Macaws and Cockatoos.
The rangers started with the smallest Cockatoo, which is the Cockatiel and then headed off to the Photo Booth to get up-close with some of our larger Macaws and Cockatoos. The rangers were introduced to our Scarlet Macaw, Hybrid Macaw, Blue-and-gold Macaw, Palm Cockatoo, Lesser Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and many more. All were mesmerized and eager to interact with our friendly birds like Bonnie White and Jamrong.
Next, they trooped off to the World of Parrots, where they learn about the Rose-breasted Cockatoo.
Lastly, the rangers stopped by the Amphitheatre to learn about the intelligence of macaws. The trained birds also performed some tricks to entertain our tired but happy rangers.
After the short break, it is time for their DIY session. All the rangers were brought into the activity room where they were to make a booklet. As the rangers coloured their macaws with their creativity, it was obvious that most of them like the Scarlet Macaw. Finally, it was time to go home. Notes were given out as a recap of what they had learnt that day. Till we meet again in the next Half Day Camp!
